Hi Club,
These are the upcoming plans for August Month.
1) 2nd Aug is Nationals. We are officially left with 2 more trainings (wed and friday) before Nationals arrive. However, I'm thinking whether to abandon the last training for recuperation and carbo-loading for Nationals.
Exco, please advise me on this issue.*Whether Friday's training is a need.
On top of that, all participants have to be there.
The club has made it compulsory for members to spare just one Sunday to be there at Kallang Basin Swimming Complex to view and support the competition. This is to allow existing and new members to have an experience of a Lifesaving Competition in National Standard.
As Batch 5 will have a second chance in participating the competition next year. Please consolidate your experience and improve on existing standard to be able to compete better next year.
2) Right after Nationals, anyone have any plans to go anywhere to celebrate? Please propose something alright?
3) Trainings on 3rd Aug and 10th Aug are cancelled. The club will go on a short break after the long long training that we had.
Club activities will resume on 17th Aug.4) On 17th Aug, these will be the deal for the members:
5th Batch:
To attend training on every Monday without fail, to complete your AM on your own. I will propose to school to submit 5 names for fully-subsidised INSTRUCTOR COURSE on the following year.
So you can have from August month all the way to 2010 March to complete your AM.
I will only consider AM candidates for INSTRUCTOR COURSE. So go and work for it.
6th Batch:
Sama sama. To attend training on every Monday without fail, to complete your BM course under the supervision of Seniors who will be coming back to help out once they are done with their personal issues.
You are supposed to clear your BM by End of the Year. So work hard for the timing.
2.45 is the standard of SIM lifesavers.7th Batch:
You are to undergo a
rigorous L123 trainings all the way to October. And clear your L123 by then. It will be tough and intensive. Be prepared. As this will only aid in your transition to the Bronze Medallion course. It's all worth it.
Eric and I will be your instructors. We welcome you to the SIM Lifesaving family.
Other issues:
Orientation camp will be reviewed by sub-comm. They will announce to us about their revised plan.
Sub-comm please report to exco about your plans first. Thanks!
That's all folks.
Secure.
Open Water Training
On the last saturday of every month, we head down to Sentosa's Palawan Beach
We do surfboarding, canoeing, beach run, open water swims, definitely not your typical day out at the beach.
It’s not all work and no play though. Our beach outing have proven to be a great get-together session, a day of fun and laughter
Biathlon
Come 2009 we will focus our training on the singapore biathlon and NUS biathlon.
A biathlon is a sport that combines swimming and running, demanding mental strength and determination from every participating athlete. Distances can range from a sprint race (750m swim, 5km run) to a full Olympic distance race (1.5km swim, 10km run).
With well organised progressive training and special total immersion swimming workshops, we believe we can achieve great results.
Competitions
Our main competitions are the National annual lifesaving competition and NUS invitational.
Competition events include still water events such as obstacle swims, manikin tows, rope throw etc.
The best part comes at the beach with open water events such as the board/canoe race, run-swim-run, beach runs, board rescue and so many more!
Swimming
You love the calming feeling of being submerged in water and the fun factor of frolicking in the pool like you were 10 years old again.
We welcome you to join us for leisure swimming. It doesn’t matter if you swim to keep fit, swim as a past-time, swim fast or slow, we welcome you with open arms to enjoy swimming together. We'll be officially starting our first swimming lesson this coming 6th July 2009, so sign up now and learn how to swim!
Student Coaches
After Bronze Medallion and becoming a qualified lifeguard, your journey doesn’t stop there!
We encourage our members to take up coaching courses and becoming a lifesaving coach for our team after attaining your Bronze Medallion.
Many of our members have gone on to attain the Award of Merit in lifesaving too!
Courses
Other than our club activities, we also conduct courses such as lifesaving 1,2 and 3, Bronze Medallion, and Award of Merit in lifesaving.
Most of our members attained at least Bronze Medallion. Many of them go on to work part time as Lifeguards or swimming coaches.
.
So what is Lifesaving and Bronze Medallion? We use a simple analogy. Lifesaving123 is like your driving theory, and Bronze Medallion is like your TP test.
After passing, you would be a qualified driver lifeguard!
