Hi club,
It's been a long time since i last spoke to all of you. Just let me emo and read finish this entry for this once ok?
After all the trouble that zhiwei and i and many other ppl like eric, vincent who stayed behind to continue to help out with the emergency bm training class. The results begin to appear right? I guess most of you are more certain about your item 1 timing already. So happy for all of you.
However, it is the passing of the BM course of your batch (the largest intake ever) that is bothering me. I just want to take the chance to urge the current BM batch to continue to stay active within the club and continue for training when the club reopens during June.
A club that is so big with nearing 40 members, if the active members is only limited to kunda, zhiwei, and me and those exco members and some loyal members... then the club is only worthy to be called a 10 people club. What i want to see is really a fully commitment club that is so enthu about their activities.
The LS123 people attending their LS123 without fail.
The BM people challenging their previous own timing every week they come for training.
The graduated BM people aiming for higher achievements.
I was once a noob dog member wwho came with the idea of taking advantage of the cheap course fee. Get the Bm and escape as far as possible. But as i tow and tow and tow and tow.. Until i begin to fall in love by towing zhiwei. Now i love towing zhiwei, that's why i begin to like lifesaving. I guess all of you will have your own love story in lifesaving.
I just hope that you realised how fun lifesaving can be.
What can matter more than:
1) Beating your own timing every week, may it be towing or swimming
2) Competing with Rongtai (fastest swimmer of lifesaving)
3) Joking with son of HO CHI MINH, DUC
4) talking about cycling underwater and start to auto reformat
5) the "sumptuous dinner" at BOTAK JONES occasionally!
6) so many other things!
There are many other paths of advancement after BM.
Option 1: You can train harder and get AM! (Swim 1.5laps, Tow 1.5laps)
Option 2: You can join the instructor rank and be an instructor yourself
Option 3: You can join the lifesaving team for competition.
We need two main guy team consisting of 6 man for each team, and two main girl team consisting of 6 females for each team.
Option 4: You can do Opt 1,2 and 3 together! or you can do Opt 1 and 2, or 1 and 3.
Option 5: You can continue to take Bronze cross which is an open water module in lifesaving
Option 6: You can do Opt4 and 5?
See! There is so much more to do within the club. And what else can beat the weekly dinner right after a shagging session of swimming! And also the upcoming cohesions that the exco is planning for all of you.
Please prove your loyalty by your actions. I hope to continue see you guys coming for the weekly trainings! Anyway, the club is going to holiday soon.. So let's see it when June comes!
And all the best for LS123 who are taking their slss exams soon. ANd also BM people who are taking their BM before club holiday.
Your emo pres.
Open Water Training
On the last saturday of every month, we head down to Sentosa's Palawan Beach
We do surfboarding, canoeing, beach run, open water swims, definitely not your typical day out at the beach.
It’s not all work and no play though. Our beach outing have proven to be a great get-together session, a day of fun and laughter
Biathlon
Come 2009 we will focus our training on the singapore biathlon and NUS biathlon.
A biathlon is a sport that combines swimming and running, demanding mental strength and determination from every participating athlete. Distances can range from a sprint race (750m swim, 5km run) to a full Olympic distance race (1.5km swim, 10km run).
With well organised progressive training and special total immersion swimming workshops, we believe we can achieve great results.
Competitions
Our main competitions are the National annual lifesaving competition and NUS invitational.
Competition events include still water events such as obstacle swims, manikin tows, rope throw etc.
The best part comes at the beach with open water events such as the board/canoe race, run-swim-run, beach runs, board rescue and so many more!
Swimming
You love the calming feeling of being submerged in water and the fun factor of frolicking in the pool like you were 10 years old again.
We welcome you to join us for leisure swimming. It doesn’t matter if you swim to keep fit, swim as a past-time, swim fast or slow, we welcome you with open arms to enjoy swimming together. We'll be officially starting our first swimming lesson this coming 6th July 2009, so sign up now and learn how to swim!
Student Coaches
After Bronze Medallion and becoming a qualified lifeguard, your journey doesn’t stop there!
We encourage our members to take up coaching courses and becoming a lifesaving coach for our team after attaining your Bronze Medallion.
Many of our members have gone on to attain the Award of Merit in lifesaving too!
Courses
Other than our club activities, we also conduct courses such as lifesaving 1,2 and 3, Bronze Medallion, and Award of Merit in lifesaving.
Most of our members attained at least Bronze Medallion. Many of them go on to work part time as Lifeguards or swimming coaches.
.
So what is Lifesaving and Bronze Medallion? We use a simple analogy. Lifesaving123 is like your driving theory, and Bronze Medallion is like your TP test.
After passing, you would be a qualified driver lifeguard!
Lifesaving 1, 2 & 3
